Otherwise, I leave to other imaging information like that can handle a powerful tool like Photoshop better than me. But this two-minute improvement of structures in an image using the high-pass filter has really convinced me. I've read at some times, tried, found to be very useful, and handwritten in a Moleskine (Gee, how anachronistic old-fashioned!) Stock exchanges.

Sharpness by high-pass filter

The image is duplicated (right click on the Background layer in the Layers window, then select "Duplicate Layer"). At the new level of high-pass filter is applied (Filter> Other Filters> High Pass). For example, the image I have set a radius value of 3.5 - better to start small and if in doubt again. The smaller the radius value, the lower edges are highlighted.

The sharp color transitions are visible, the rest of the new plane is gray. But that is not so: The blending of level set to Soft Light (right-click on the layer, then the window layer style> blending General> Soft light from the drop-down menu). Now the filter from the exposed edges are sharpened.

For the case that the still is not sufficient, this second level will in turn be copied; This increases the effect. In the last step before the unification of the levels (menu Layer> Merge Visible on a plane or keyboard shortcut Shift + Ctrl + E), the opacity can be adjusted depending on the perception of the slider in the Layers window.
