I'm on flickr not only since yesterday. But there only in the last three or four weeks has been so right away. I did not have much time to demand university, school and family take their toll. But at night, to relax, I've looked at photos and my newest and some older set. This is something I noticed:
1st The other works can be incredibly inspiring!
Sure, you could see Flickr as a kind of showroom for their own images. (And that's probably so.) But that's only half the battle. Many groups are on the rules that demand for each selected image, a certain number of comments awards or award. You have to virtually by decree to deal with the images of others.
Here I noticed how many really good pictures there. They open our eyes to new things. Fresh wind, good ideas and inspiration. "I would also like to make," I think to myself often. Unusual perspective, new perspectives. Ideas to implement. Do not copy (copy one style can not), but drawing on other new banks to enter.
2nd Rules are important!
A community can not exist without rules. First, it often sounds very hard man who does not comment on the predetermined number of images is a warning. Those who do not respond then flies out. Moderators who can block, grab his virtual stuff and find another playground.
But it is wise from bad experiences. "Post and run" rampant, the "I'll take it to me and I'm off then" mentality too. Through the monitoring of the rules is avoided. There are even groups that publish the names of the banished, excluded "grubby children". Anyone who is interested only in his own advantage thrown out. In normal life away from the virtual world is no different, but it always falls back on how many violations there is such a rule. Discipline is the beginning of freedom.
Some rules, however, also understands the inclined not users .
3rd Be good, then so are others!
We know the German language in a few phrases that go in this direction:
- As one goes around the forest, comes around.
- Tit for tat.
- Always act the way you want to be treated.
- One hand washes the other.
This also applies to communities like Flickr. With the "Giving is more blessed to give than to" number I want to do here, but much depends on Gegenseitgkeit in life. It is however important to stay honest and authentic. I can not praise something to the skies, which I can not stand and what did not I like.
I've trained myself to fly over the first two or three pages of a group in which I set a new image, open to me the most interesting recordings in the background in new tabs and then fly them over. I forgive then group awards, sometimes write something about it and prefer the best works.
4th Strategy is everything: the time.
What time is it in New York when it is 20 clock? How late in LA? Flickr is an American platform, and most of the resonances come from there. So always place the images that they will not pass on this important clientele. So come at night, while I (and most Europeans) take a nap and be in the REM stage, plenty of comments. Too late, but it should not be, you will have with the European-flickr in the boat. At night around 1 or so at 8 points are rather bad time - ideally, the window of 16 to 21 clock Central European Time. Since Americans are already up, the Europeans still awake.
5th Strategy is everything, the second: the selection of groups
Small and unknown groups have the advantage that it does not add as many images in rapid succession come - the images remain longer in the front pages. Most diggen not so deep into the periphery. Large, well-known groups, however, have an enormous reach - because it rains a lot of fast response, provided that the images have the appropriate quality. Specialized niche groups, for example, Old, forest roads, women shoes and 50mm lens users should always be with the portfolio. Experience has shown that there is dug deeper because inclinations and fetish worship is there.
Some groups are considered high-quality guarantee and are accordingly appeal - what are they, well, you can see from the groups of images that arrive very well. If in doubt, just look at the pictures pools, one does not know about you but stumbles again and again, to call and browse. Since each quickly finds the right mix.
"Invite only" groups are usually very good - you should not ignore invitations reprehensible. Also during his wonderful discoveries can be made.
6th Size does matter!
Both the groups as well as in our own portfolio is: Size is not everything! Not the quantity but the quality is of crucial importance. Rather less upload images, but the internal quality control efforts in advance and set really good material. What good is it if you have a photo stream, as it is so beautiful at Flickr has photos of 827, which no one wants to see that are not commented and no one loves? Nix. However:
7th Size matters!
278 comments, many awards and plenty of people who describe an image as favorites are the bread and butter of every photographer. Then goes from the number of awards, in order to qualify for the next higher group (where the quality of the group pool is much better because the wheat from the chaff), that is not defective. On the contrary: each Special Award lets the ego swell. (Anyone who says otherwise is lying is what in the bag!)
8th Success can be planned!
Suppose that a shot has a quality that is the internal quality control, which may include family and friends ravishes delighted to shout, then it is time to present the image in Flickr. Again, even if you feel nothing for the photo, you will also be able to move anyone else. Now you heed the policies that placed pictures sent behaves conform to the rules, not to be excluded from the group and is generous to others (keyword: GOOD KARMA), one success of the pictures is almost nothing in your way.
I even have pictures on Flickr, which stagnated for four or five months without significant reactions to himself. But first, since they are presented targeted, because what is happening.
The most glaring example: The "training pack" now reached over 250 comments and more than 60 favorites lingered until two weeks ago with 4 (four) and a commentary (in words: one) around the Flickr favorites in landscape. The few groups that owned the picture, were small, unknown and little comment happy. And now this tremendous growth. If they had answered very well may do so.
9th Success is not planned!
There are pictures that go with almost all groups to which they belong, like hot cakes. And suddenly the skin there anymore. Pictures, which I consider themselves to be less prominent, have experienced the highest honors in certain groups, but the top picture is not there to run well. Why? The answer probably only knows the photography God personally. Wrong time? All group members are suddenly taken ill of swine flu? Total failure of the network? I do not know. Not really. Something makes as abruptly and unexpectedly thwart the cheap plan.
10th Show off your best pictures in the best light!
It goes from taking pictures and not at all! Well-Informed shots or spontaneous strokes of genius are set at Flickr. Professionals like to make a matching frame around the image, preferably black, and covered her work with words, of course, must not distract or disrupt. As a "pro" at Flickr has one crucial advantage: it is in the choice of groups not tied to a maximum of 10 and must not already set to replace images. I had initially only a few pictures frames, and the writing was not what I imagined it. (One user wrote in a commentary: "Very atmospheric absorption only in the context of the text a little disturbing!.") Criticism, so as expressed constructively to improve the incentive itself. Now I've reconsidered my design, simple one, but I think it found the appropriate way of photo presentation - a Flickr whole experience is now nothing stands in your way.
I will but set in the coming days once the example of an image: "Breaking Through" goes into the race with 6 comments and favorites. I will show the development - and also not exclude low-and setbacks.
It will be interesting.
PS: If this blog some of the "photo happen" not to be visible, so I have replaced the images determined by Flickr. Gradually, I will deal with the problem.
